Gutting protections for our air, water, land and wildlife. But egg prices. Systematically and illegally firing federal workers. But egg prices. Canceling food support for kids in schools. But egg prices. Cutting funding for scientific research including cancer. But egg prices. Removing diverse heroes from our history. But egg prices. Allowing a billionaire and his henchman access to our sensitive personal information. But egg prices. Bankrupting our economy. But eggs prices. Kidnapping and human trafficking immigrants who are in the country legally to horrific prisons in another country. But egg prices. Defying the Supreme Court and breaking our nearly 250-year-old democracy. But egg prices.
Now that you’re preparing for Easter and egg prices are at a record high. (“High egg prices drive alternatives to Easter staple,” April 16), how are you feeling about all that the country has given up while President Donald Trump hasn’t delivered on his promises to reduce egg prices?

Protect voter info
What’s next? President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk want our voter registration documents from each state? Never. These are dangerous activities and must be stopped. Our elections are run by individual states, not the teenage Department of Government Efficiency guys who know nothing about how our government works. Nor do they have the years of experience that are needed to understand how to operate our government. Our government has issues as any huge organization might have. But it was not broken. It’s broken now and needs serious fixing. Fire the chain saw leader, his DOGE kids and rein in our rogue president.
Oh, I forgot, you need a spine to do that, and you gave your spine to Trump.

So much growth
I was absolutely shocked by the number of houses where I once spent a year teaching children from Truchas from John Hyson Institute as a crosscultural program from Indian University. The year was 1974. Outside of the restaurant was a weaving place. There was a liquor store in a white trailer. Had to have a rock in each hand. No police, just mean dogs protecting property. Chimayó was pristine back then. Just like anything else in life, when a land is nirvana, people will congregate and overpopulate. Wonder what Taos looks these days?

Hard medicine
How about giving the Republican toadies complicit in destroying this country a taste of their own medicine? Let’s take away their health insurance, their incomes and perks for which our taxes pay. It’s not apparent that they deserve any renumeration for working for their constituents betterment, instead they cowardly agree to Trump’s hateful agendas while we are seeing nothing positive from them.

Challenge falsehoods
I was deeply disappointed to read unchallenged false statements on the safety of pregnancy care in Texas in a recent article about an out-of-state group hosting billboards recommending pregnant Texans coming to New Mexico “turn around” rather than receive safe, effective abortion care in our state (“Anti-abortion group launches billboard campaign to combat ‘abortion tourism’ in New Mexico,” April 14). Robust scientific evidence has demonstrated that the abortion ban in Texas has been associated in a rise in maternal deaths, a fact that has been well documented and devastating. Our neighbors deserve better.
Journalists and editors must challenge unfounded facts by interviewees, as well as by interest groups. Our country is facing an anti-science crisis, rendering it particularly crucial that our news outlets perform due diligence and confirm medical and scientific facts — particularly in this era of widespread misinformation by individuals and entities seeking political and personal gain. In this case, extensive medical literature shows that legal abortions are safe, and that restrictions on access to this care worsens health outcomes.
