Since the investigation is over and there is still “no driver error” attached to the death of Glen Smith, I can only assume the city has prohibited the driver, Robert Armijo, from any duties that require driving for the city (“City driver won’t face charges in bus stop crash death,” April 29).

Headline changes
The headlines on many articles printed in The New Mexican are modified from the original source article. I can understand doing that for reasons of space, but the general content and message conveyed by the headline should be retained. It is not uncommon, in my opinion, that the modified headline misrepresents the data in the full article. The most recent example: (“Poll shows Trump remains strong with immigration,” April 26).
The original headline at The Associated Press was: “Immigration is Trump’s strongest issue, but many say he’s gone too far.” While Trump polls better with respect to immigration than any other issue, the percentage of Americans who approve of his approach is 46%. That’s not “strong.” It’s less than half. Reading to the end of the article shows that when asked about some of the specific actions taken, the approval rating drops to 38%.

Trial for Trump
Some 1,270 riotous insurrectionists tried to stop Congress from certifying the presidential election on Jan. 6, 2021. Each rioter received a fair trial under the law, in which valid evidence was presented. Each had the opportunity to defend themselves. Each convicted rioter was judged guilty by a jury of peers. Due process in action. Only the ringleader of the anti-democracy rebellion, the leader who told them to “fight like hell,” escaped trial and conviction. His lawyers masterfully played every “due process” trick in the book.
Then, on Jan. 20, 2025, the insurrection leader, our reelected president, pardoned the convicted rioters. Now, President Donald Trump is invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 and Insurrection Act of 1807 to deport alleged “enemies” without due process as required by law. That one anti-democracy perpetrator, the traitor who evaded judgment, should be forced to stand trial now. If convicted, he should be deported to El Salvador.
